The back-rower went off injured on Thursday against Provence Rugby (16-16).
The scan has spoken, the surgeon has not. US Dax say Jean-Baptiste Barrère has a “partial to complete rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee” and a “rupture of the lateral ligament”. The captain went off injured on Thursday during the draw with Provence Rugby (16-16) at the Maurice-Boyau.
Three scenarios
Co-president André Morlaes set out the timescales to French radio ICI Landes. Without surgery, Barrère would need at least three months of rest. An operation on the lateral ligament would mean four to seven months out. A complete cruciate rupture would mean eight to ten months, ending his season. The surgeon’s decision is expected within ten days.
Contract until June 2027
Barrère had told the club he intended to stop when his contract ends in June 2027. Dax say they are ready to extend it if he wants to come back and finish in 2028. “He will be the one to decide,” said Morlaes.
Born on 15 December 1989, the back-rower has played at least 292 Pro D2 games and scored 55 tries for Pau, Béziers and Dax, where he arrived in 2023. He had played seven games this season, scoring two tries. Dax are ninth with 21 points.
