England closed out their WXV Global Series on Friday at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison. The answer came from a player who wasn’t even on the sheet last week. Claudia Moloney-MacDonald scored four tries in 47 minutes, and England ended their two-match losing run against Canada by crushing the United States 55-12.
17-7 at the break, then the four-try haul
The Americans arrived on the back of five straight wins. Moloney-MacDonald scored in the 4th and 12th minutes, Hope Rogers replied (23rd), and Meg Jones put the Red Roses 17-7 up at the break, in a match that was still ragged, according to the Guardian. The winger settled the issue in the 42nd and 47th minutes. Mia Venner, Bryony Field, Maddie Feaunati and Sadia Kabeya added their own tries, with Zoe Harrison converting the last three from the bench. Kate Zackary cut the gap at the final whistle.
35 years unbeaten against the Americans
The United States haven’t beaten England since the 1991 World Cup, 22 straight English wins, according to the Guardian’s count. The Red Roses finish these Global Series with three wins, a draw and two defeats, and won’t play again for six months.
