Les Bleues played their last match of the women’s World Cup on Saturday, at Cbus Super Stadium.
France’s World Cup ends as it began. After Papua New Guinea (58-4) and New Zealand (92-0), Fiji won 54-6 on the Gold Coast. France’s campaign ends with three defeats, 10 points scored and 204 conceded.
A single try, from Bessière
Tahlia Marshall opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minute. Maria Paseka, Luisa Yaranamua and Losana Lutu then gave Fiji a twenty-point lead before the break, after a try by Haoua Kessely had just been ruled out by the video referee. Stecy Bessière finally scored on the restart, latching onto a pass from Fanny Ramos to go over between the posts. Six more tries followed.
A first for Fiji
Jone Wesele’s players were contesting their very first World Cup and have reached a semi-final, a first in the history of Fijian women’s rugby league. The 92-0 defeat to New Zealand equals the heaviest defeat in the history of the French side, as Treize Mondial pointed out.
