Mathis Castro-Ferreira is back playing for Toulouse.
Mathis Castro-Ferreira is back in action. The 22-year-old Toulouse back-rower came off the bench last Saturday in the 38-33 win over Perpignan, his first game since 15 February and a 13-9 win at Stade Francais, 251 days earlier.
Ankle surgery
After a scooter accident, he first tried to avoid surgery. “When I started running again, I was limping and felt a lot of pain,” he told La Depeche du Midi. A damaged piece of cartilage meant an operation to clean out the ankle joint, followed by several months of rehabilitation in Toulouse and Capbreton. “Before the scans, yes, I had doubts,” he admitted. “I know very well that my rugby won’t come back overnight.”
Expected at Pau on Sunday
La Depeche, Actu.fr and Quinze Mondial all expect him to be involved at the Hameau on Sunday (9.05pm), with Toulouse missing five protected France players, including Francois Cros. A 2023 World U20 champion, he scored nine tries in 15 Top 14 matches in 2023-24. He has played 39 league games and seven Champions Cup matches for Toulouse.
