Beziers are responding to their poor start. In an open letter published on the club website on Thursday, president Bob Skinstad said the club’s shareholders were stepping up their commitment: “Additional financial resources are being committed with immediate effect to strengthen our squad, meet our priority sporting needs and prepare for next season.”

Recruit now, plan for 2027-28

The statement gives neither a figure nor the names of the investors. It focuses on recruitment, with Gurthro Steenkamp’s squad hit by a long list of absentees: “We will communicate on signings as soon as they are confirmed.” According to Midi Libre, the board is keeping faith with the coaching staff and has already started building next season’s squad, after last summer’s recruitment was completed too late.

The need is real. After eight rounds, Beziers are 15th with two wins and 9 points, three behind Nice and four behind Narbonne and Colomiers. Their points difference (-144) is the worst in the league after last Friday’s 54-3 defeat at Provence. They have also lost fly-half Joseph Laharrague, recalled from his loan by Bordeaux-Begles last week. Beziers host Grenoble, third and on a five-match winning run, on Friday at 7.30pm.
