The saga of Louis Rees-Zammit’s return to rugby union may reach its conclusion in the coming hours. The Wales international, who left to try his hand at American football in the United States, announced on his social media at the start of August that he intended to return to the sport that made his name in the first part of his career. “It’s been a great experience but it’s time for me to come home”, read the message on his Instagram account.

Bristol have plenty of arguments to convince Rees-Zammit

On Thursday, the Telegraph reported that the former Gloucester and Wales wing, who failed to break through in the NFL, is on the verge of signing with the Bristol Bears, fourth and Premiership semi-finalists last season. A sporting choice, but not only that: Bristol is only an hour’s drive from Cardiff, the capital of his native Wales.

The English club will also move their league fixture against Harlequins on 28 March to the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, and would find in Rees-Zammit an excellent selling point to fill the mythical Welsh ground that day.
