George Nott announced on Tuesday that he will retire at the end of the year, after a decade with Sale, London Irish, the Dragons and Cardiff.

U20 world champion

Born in Bodelwyddan, Wales, Nott played for England at age-grade level. He started all five games of the 2016 World Rugby U20 Championship, won by England with a 45-21 final victory over Ireland.

Three seasons with Van Zyl in London

A product of the Sale academy, he joined London Irish in 2019 and spent three seasons under Corniel van Zyl, now his coach at Cardiff. He then played three seasons for the Dragons in Newport, from 2022 to 2025.

He joined Cardiff in summer 2025 but has not played since the end of last season, held back by injuries according to Van Zyl, who says the club is looking for a replacement. “It’s been a really difficult decision to leave the club in what is such a special and historic year”, said Nott, who remains available throughout December.
