A try every match and a half for eight years. That is the strike rate Perpignan have just signed.
Sevu Reece has only ever known one professional franchise. He joined the Crusaders in 2018, spent eight seasons there and never left until signing in Catalonia. The numbers are clear: 74 tries in 102 Super Rugby matches, including the Aotearoa edition played in 2020 while the borders were closed.
A consistent scorer, not a one-off
The consistency is even more striking than the total. Reece has scored at least eight tries in six different seasons, peaking at fifteen in his first year with the Crusaders, in 2018.

Across all competitions, club and country, his tally stands at 124 tries in 178 appearances since his debut with Waikato in 2016. Last season he scored 12 in 19 matches.
A recent international
Reece has 37 caps for New Zealand, the first in 2019 and the most recent on 22 November 2025. This is not a player long out of the international picture: he was still wearing the black jersey less than a year ago, just over nine months before arriving in the Top 14.
Born in Fiji and developed in New Zealand, where he played for Waikato, Tasman and then Southland in the NPC, he played at the 2019 World Cup.
What Perpignan expect
USAP have saved their place in the access match for the last two seasons. President François Rivière has set a clear target for this campaign: “Laurent Labit’s roadmap is obviously to avoid the access match”.
Reece’s signing fits that plan, with a three-year contract that goes beyond a short-term stopgap. He joins a squad the club has strengthened in several positions, notably at half-back, where six experienced players are now competing for places.
Perpignan open their season on Saturday at 7.05pm away to Stade Français, semi-finalists in last season’s Top 14.
