Just before the hour, Anthony Jelonch took a blow to the head from a Daniel Bibi Biziwu carry, with further contact against team-mate Romeo Bonnard-Martin.
He went off in the 58th minute, failed his head injury assessment and the independent doctor did not clear him to return. He watched the rest of the 34-14 defeat from the bench. “He took a knock. We’ll do the check tomorrow on the concussion,” Ugo Mola said after the game.
Only just back
It was only Jelonch’s third game of the season. He had shoulder surgery after an injury against Bordeaux-Bègles on April 12, then returned on October 18 with eight minutes off the bench against Exeter, followed by two Top 14 starts, against Perpignan and at Pau.
He was not in the coach’s first squad and was called up to cover for Marko Gazzotti. France are already without Lenni Nouchi in the back row, banned for three weeks on appeal. They host Fiji on November 7, then South Africa on November 13.
