His last Test for the Pumas was on July 9, 2022, a 29-6 defeat by Scotland.
That gap makes Domingo Miotti eligible now: World Rugby rules allow one change of national team, after a stand-down period without a Test and with family ties to the new country. For the 30-year-old fly-half, that means an Italian paternal grandfather, AllRugby.it reports. The Italian federation announced his call-up on Sunday.
Four fly-halves for Quesada
Miotti hurt his quadriceps in late October and missed the first part of the camp. Quesada says he can now train normally, and that the player first mentioned his grandfather when the coach arrived in Italy three years ago. “Domingo is a great player and an excellent person, he has shown his motivation and chosen to represent Italy,” the coach said.
The Montpellier man will compete with Paolo Garbisi, Tommaso Allan and Giacomo Da Re. Last season he scored 265 points in the Top 14, in 23 games including 21 starts. He has played 31 league games for Montpellier since 2024, scoring 317 points.
Capuozzo back, Lamaro out
Ange Capuozzo also joins the group, having missed the start of the camp in Padua for family reasons. Italy are still without fifteen players, including captain Michele Lamaro, Sebastian Negri, Juan Ignacio Brex and Tommaso Menoncello.
After South Africa, Italy face Argentina in Genoa on November 14 and Fiji in Udine on November 21. This summer they lost in Japan (27-10), New Zealand (47-17) and Australia (57-10).
