The news was played on the big screens at Chaban-Delmas just before kick-off against Bayonne.
In the video, Ben Tameifuna talks about his years in Bordeaux and his attachment to the city, then confirms he will stay until 2029, to applause from the crowd. He will be 37 when the new deal ends.
His most prolific season at Bordeaux
Signed from Racing 92 in summer 2020, the Tongan is in his seventh season at the club, which credits him with 149 appearances. Last season was his most productive: 21 games, 13 in the Top 14 and eight in the Champions Cup, with six tries, his best return in Bordeaux colours. The club says he started only six of them, mostly making his impact off the bench.
Since arriving, he has played 117 Top 14 games and 29 Champions Cup games for Bordeaux, scoring 16 tries.
Surgery delayed for the knockout rounds
Tameifuna played his part in both of the club’s European titles, in 2025 and 2026. According to Bordeaux, he finished last season with a shoulder injury that should have ruled him out of the Champions Cup knockout rounds, and he postponed surgery to keep playing.
The club also points to his standing in the squad: he captained the side for the first time on February 26, 2026, at Montauban. With Tonga, the prop has 43 caps and has played at two World Cups, in 2019 and 2023.
