Gareth Anscombe's Basque adventure ends after a single campaign. The Scarlets confirmed on Thursday the arrival of the Wales international fly-half, who never found his place at Jean-Dauger.

Recruited in 2025 to take over from Camille Lopez, the fly-half capped 46 times by Wales played only 5 Top 14 matches in the Bayonne shirt, 2 of them as a starter, for a total of 7 points scored. A thin return for a player who was coming off a full season at Gloucester (15 starts in the Premiership).

At 35, the Auckland native joins the third Welsh region of his career after Cardiff Blues and the Ospreys. The move home looks like a final challenge for the fly-half of Wales’ 2019 Grand Slam, who was then ruled out of the World Cup by injury.
