At 26, Carbonel has been racking up starts since the beginning of the season and has established himself as a central piece of Paul Gustard’s game plan. He arrived in Paris in 2024 from Montpellier, after a well-noted spell at Toulon, and was under contract until 2027. Talks with the club’s management, currently at an advanced stage, should extend that partnership by a further two seasons, until the summer of 2029, according to our colleagues at Rugbyrama.

The player embodies the new sporting project at Stade Français, who are currently rubbing shoulders with the top of the championship. This contract extension can therefore be read as a strong signal of stability for a historic French club looking for consistency in its results after seasons marked by changes of squad and of objectives.

At the same time, another senior member of the squad, hooker Lucas Peyresblanques, whose contract is also up shortly, is in advanced talks to stay in Paris for the next three seasons. But as with Carbonel, nothing has yet been officially signed, though both files are said to be on the verge of being wrapped up.
