A… surprise announcement. David Gérard, currently head coach of Romania, a former Stade Toulousain player and rugby pundit for Canal +, has joined the list of Rassemblement National MP Laure Valette for the coming municipal elections in Toulon (15 and 22 March).

Better still, the former lock will be second on the candidate’s list and could even become deputy mayor for sport.

A well-stocked CV

“A kid from Le Mourillon, an RCT academy player, an international, French and European champion, coach, head coach: David Gérard will be number two on my list and will become sports deputy for the city of Toulon. Toulon deserves it”, Laure Lavalette wrote on her social media. The message was accompanied by a video.

A native of Toulon, Gérard played for CA Bègles-Bordeaux, Stade Toulousain, Northampton, Racing Metro 92 and then Stade phocéen Marseille-Vitrolles alongside a certain Jonah Lomu from 2009 to 2011. He notably coached the forwards at Béziers, Montauban, Lyon and Portugal before becoming the new head coach of Romania.
