Cudmore unruffled

Reached by It’s Rugby while on holiday, Jamie Cudmore, Nissa Rugby’s defence coach, betrays no emotion whatsoever, nor even any surprise.

“That is the presidents’ job. As for me, I have nothing to add, honestly, I am sorry, but none of that is mine to deal with, it does not concern me. We are focusing on the rugby side,” the Canadian said.

There is one consequence all the same, precisely on the rugby side.

“I am still a coach, I look after the defence, that is my role and I am 100% focused on preparing for the season,” Cudmore replied.

Was there any contact with president Aldigé before or after 17 July?

“He had spoken to us to say he had planned certain things, but at the same time, as I have already said, that is for the management and the ownership group. And honestly, they let us on the technical side try to move forward. He does his job, very, very well in fact, and we are going to try to do the same on our side.”

Is the coaching staff carrying on working, preparing for the season as if nothing had happened?

“Absolutely. Jean-Baptiste (Aldigé, ed.) handles the politics, as is his role, and lets the rugby side do its own. I think we are quite good, quite comfortable in our different jobs and tasks. We focus on the job. Right now I am on holiday, for a week, making the most of it to see my children, they are scattered around the world. And I am recharging a little with the family, and on Sunday we are off again, we will be at a training camp and we will start pre-season,” the former lock explained.

A joint show of pressure from the presidents? A risky game? Manoeuvring? Conviction? The city council expressed surprise, pointing to already substantial commitments. The players discussed the situation without panicking, as did the staff. The stand-off has begun.
