RC Toulon confirmed on Tuesday that Mathieu Smaïli has extended his contract by a further two seasons. The centre is now tied to the Var club until 2027. Born in Hyères and developed at RCT, Smaïli, 25, won the U20 World Cup in 2019 with France. He has played six Top 14 matches this season, scoring one try.
“I am delighted to be continuing the adventure with RCT”, he said on the club’s website. “It is the club that developed me, the club of my region, and it is a great source of pride to be able to keep representing these Red and Black colours in the future.”
This extension is part of a wider squad-renewal project undertaken by RC Toulon. After announcing the arrival of young back-rower Patrick Tuifua, the Var club have also just secured the signing of Mathis Ferté, one of the great hopes of French rugby, from Brive
