Both Currie Cup Premier Division semi-finals were played on Sunday. They produced two contrasting stories and a final that brings the trophy back to Kimberley, where it has been since last season.

Seven Griquas tries against the Lions

The Suzuki Griquas left no room for suspense at the Suzuki Stadium. The defending champions scored seven tries and beat the Fidelity ADT Lions 52-12 to reach the final.

The Kimberley side will therefore play in a second consecutive final, and they will do so at home.

Pumas edge through by three points in Bloemfontein

The second semi-final was much tighter. The Airlink Pumas won 27-24 away to the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Fly-half Clinton Swart’s accurate goal-kicking made the difference. For the Cheetahs, 26-year-old lock Pierre-Raymond Uys stood out with a first-half try and a performance that has revived talk of a possible Springboks call-up.
