The statement landed on Tuesday, signed jointly by club and player: Thomas Ramos will join Racing 92 at the end of the 2026-2027 season. An announcement made a year in advance, a rare move for a player of his standing, which locks in both the end of his Toulouse contract and his next destination. On 23 July, we wrote that no Top 14 heavyweight actually needed Thomas Ramos on the pitch. The club-by-club ranking of goal-kickers adds an important nuance: Racing 92 were the one exception.

“This decision was a particularly hard one to make. Stade Toulousain is my club, the one that saw me grow up, flourish and live through moments I will never forget,” the player said, adding that he had chosen “to take on a new sporting challenge, with the desire to discover a new environment”.
Toulouse president Didier Lacroix took the news calmly: “Seeing a player of that standing leave is never a small thing, but it is part of the life of a club and of top-level sport. Between now and his departure, only one thing matters: making a success of this 2026-2027 season together.”
197 matches and 2,319 points: the Toulouse record
A Top 14 player from the 2013-2014 season, then sent to sharpen up at Colomiers in Pro D2 in 2016-2017 (24 matches, 345 points) before returning for good, Thomas Ramos built a long career as a goal-kicker in Toulouse.

The honours list follows the same curve: six Boucliers de Brennus (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) and two Champions Cups (2021 and 2024), plus three Six Nations titles with France (2022, 2025, 2026).
Last season sums up his status. Ramos played only 15 of the French champions’ 28 Top 14 matches, 12 of them as a starter, and still scored 151 of the 1,080 points the club put up in the league, 14% of their season total. Add 72 points in six Champions Cup matches.
His season ended on a frustrating note: a thigh injury ruled him out of the semi-final against Racing 92 on 19 June, with Blair Kinghorn taking his place. Toulouse won 71-17 before claiming the Brennus against Montpellier (28-20).
Racing 92, the only big club without a first-choice kicker
This is where the move makes sporting sense. Run through the goal-kickers at each Top 14 club last season and one thing stands out: the wealthiest clubs already had their marksman, young and established. Clermont with Harry Plummer, Stade Français with Louis Carbonel, Montpellier with Domingo Miotti, La Rochelle with Nolann Le Garrec.
Racing 92 were the exception. The club split its points production between two fly-halves, without either really taking charge.

Thirteen starts each, 314 points between the two: that is the profile of a side that never settled the question. At full-back, Max Spring (25) brings danger in attack (11 tries, 63 points) but does not take the shots at goal.
The rest of Racing’s season points the same way. They finished the regular season with 16 wins and a draw in 26 rounds, 828 points scored and 723 conceded, before knocking out Pau in the play-off (33-31) and losing in the semi-final. A side that competes at the top, scores a lot, concedes a lot, and lacks someone to close matches out. The signing fits.
In Toulouse, the successor is already in the dressing room
Stade Toulousain lose a major player, not a role. The club already has five players under contract for 2026-2027 who can cover 10 or 15.

Kinghorn already stood in, both with the boot and in the shirt, in the semi-final. Ntamack was the squad’s leading kicker behind Ramos last season. And Valentin Delpy, 22, scored 45 points in only four matches, a return he has to confirm over a bigger sample but one that explains why the club did not look for a kicker on the market this summer.
A full season before the farewell
That leaves the trickiest part: twelve months of cohabitation between a club chasing a fifth title in a row and a senior player whose future lies elsewhere. Both sides got ahead of it by putting out a joint statement, which cuts off the weekly speculation.
“Right now all my energy is focused on this last season in this shirt. I will give everything to help the club reach its goals,” Thomas Ramos said. He will be 32 when he plays his first match in Racing 92 colours, an age at which kickers of his type usually remain at their peak. He has one more year in Toulouse to turn an announced departure into a proper send-off.
