Two rounds don’t make a season, but they have already split the league in two. On one side, four teams winning everywhere; on the other, twelve who only win at home, when they win at all.
Four away wins, four teams
Sixteen matches were played over the first two rounds. Twelve ended in a home win.
The four exceptions came from Oyonnax, 31-21 winners at Béziers, Montauban, 25-21 winners at Nevers, Provence Rugby, 18-13 winners at Colomiers, and Brive, 37-14 winners at Agen.
They are exactly the four teams still unbeaten in the league. No other side has won on the road, and none of these four has lost.
The coaches’ picks
That coincidence hides another. Asked before the season about the title favourites, most of the division’s coaches named Provence Rugby, followed by Brive, Montauban and Oyonnax. The table after two rounds has them in the top four places.
Provence Rugby and Oyonnax have nine points, Brive and Montauban eight. Provence have the best defence in the division with 23 points conceded, Oyonnax the second-best attack with 78 points scored.
The highest-scoring start in six years
These sixteen matches produced 922 points, an average of 57.6 per match. That is the highest total from the last six Pro D2 season openings, ahead of the 883 points of 2025-2026 and well clear of the 652 of 2024-2025.
The most open match was Aurillac against Dax on 4 September, 65-35, a hundred points in all. The tightest was Provence Rugby’s win at Colomiers, 18-13.
All those points came with plenty of indiscipline: Round 2 alone produced four red cards, eighteen yellows and 202 penalties conceded.
Agen and Béziers on zero
At the other end of the table, two teams have yet to pick up a point. Béziers have conceded 74 points in two matches, Agen 81, the worst defence in the division.
SUA can point to having faced two of the four unbeaten sides, Provence Rugby and then Brive. Béziers played Oyonnax and then Nice. Both are in action in Round 3, with Agen travelling to Grenoble on Friday 11 September and Béziers hosting Nevers the same day.
