The World Rugby Nations Cup, the second division of the new international system, played its third round this weekend. Six fixtures pitting the nations of the Americas and the Pacific against those of Europe, Africa and Asia, with a few results that reshuffle both pools.

Georgia step it up

In Santiago, Georgia made short work of Chile (49-22), with a brace from Vakhtang Jintcharadze among others. The Lelos confirm their status as bosses of the Europe-Africa-Asia pool and send a message to the rest.

Hong Kong’s big result in Montevideo

The shock of the round came in Uruguay. At home, Los Teros lost 40-42 to Hong Kong, and that despite a hat-trick from Joaquin Myszka. A defeat as spectacular as it was painful for the South Americans, beaten in their own Estadio Charrúa.

Romania snatch it at the death

In a match of twists and turns, Romania beat Samoa 38-37, driven by a brace from Alexandru Savin. Just a single point in it at the end of a high-intensity contest.

The other results

The United States saw off Spain (29-22) and take charge of the Americas-Pacific pool. Portugal controlled Tonga (32-28) thanks to a brace from Raffaele Costa Storti, while Canada beat Zimbabwe (23-19). At the end of round three, the United States and Georgia look like the favourites in their respective pools.
