Reus, four Top 14 clubs before 23, takes Bordeaux’s 10 shirt

Thirteen points off the bench

When Matthieu Jalibert went off in the 14th minute against Stade Français, Hugo Reus replaced him. The fly-half scored 13 points in that match, a try in the 37th minute and four conversions, in a 40-10 win.

With a torn quadriceps and a four-week lay-off announced by Jalibert, the shirt is his for Bordeaux’s next four matches, including the Champions Cup trip to Gloucester.

Four Top 14 clubs before turning 23

Born in February 2004, Reus already has an unusual record for his age. Our data credits him with 52 Top 14 matches and 258 points, spread across four clubs.

His busiest campaign remains 2023-24 at La Rochelle, with 15 matches and 103 points. Last season he wore three different shirts before joining Bordeaux-Bègles mid-campaign.

Brought up at Bordeaux, capped at U20 level

A native of Périgueux, Reus came through the Bordeaux-Bègles academy before moving to La Rochelle. He also played age-grade international rugby: our data credits him with 14 matches for France Under-20, including ten at the U20 World Championship in 2023 and 2024, and four in the Six Nations, for 161 points at that level.

His potential had struck his coaches at La Rochelle, where Sébastien Boboul, then backs coach, tipped him to become a first-choice fly-half.

A deputy, or more

Bordeaux have no other specialist fly-half in their senior squad. Maxime Lucu and Louis Bielle-Biarrey have both filled in there, but it is Reus who holds the shirt while Jalibert is out.
