A monument of Australian rugby is calling it a day. On Wednesday, loosehead prop James Slipper (36) announced the end of his international career. And what a career it was! With 150 caps, the Gold Coast native is quite simply the most-capped Wallaby of all time, becoming in the process the third player in the sport to pass the 150-cap mark after Wales’ Alun Wyn Jones and New Zealand’s Sam Whitelock. Immense.

A rock-solid warrior, Slipper stayed loyal to his club the Queensland Reds from 2010 to 2018 – winning Super Rugby along the way in 2011 – before finishing his career at the Brumbies. With the Wallabies, he won the Rugby Championship in 2015 and, in the same year, played in the World Cup final lost to the All Blacks.

“Representing the Wallabies has been the greatest pride of my rugby career and a privilege I never took for granted“, said the loosehead. He also added: “It feels like the right time for me to step away“.
