Christian Wade one try off Ashton’s record

He reached 100 with a hat-trick against Exeter earlier this month.

Christian Wade brought up 100 Premiership tries with a hat-trick against Exeter in round three. He has five tries in three games for Newcastle this season and is one behind Chris Ashton, the record holder with 101 since 2023.

Quicker than Ashton

Wade has scored his 100 tries in 156 Premiership games, while Ashton needed 180 for his. Ashton had himself overtaken Tom Varndell’s 92 in 2022. Wade did all this despite a long break from the game, when he tried his luck in the NFL before returning to rugby.

Date at Kingston Park

Newcastle host Sale in Friday night’s Northern derby. One try would take Wade level with Ashton, two would give him the record outright.
