  • Toulon 27 – 25 Munster

Toulon had to battle, enough to satisfy the RCT’s former owner Mourad Boudjellal: Toulon once discovered a European destiny with this kind of win. It was a penalty in the closing moments that handed the RCT this new hope after the 66 points shipped at La Rochelle. Qualification is as bright as the sun.

How cruel rugby can be… After a first half spent being dominated, La Rochelle turned things round to the point of becoming one of the few sides capable of winning at Leinster; a few poor choices, opponents who gave nothing away… A last penalty from Byrne… Qualification will now have to come through a win over Harlequins. Not done yet.

The Bristol Bears into the last 16 with some bonus-point win over the South Africans. . 

  • Leicester Tigers 57- 14 Bayonne

Move along, nothing to see in this understandable write-off..

  • Harlequins 54 – 0 Stormers

The Stormers are not playing in this European Cup, which is understandable for men from a different continent who are otherwise wonderful rugby players…. Well done to Harlequins all the same.

Northampton Saints, one of the huge games of the round with two hat-tricks (Woki, and former Vannes man Rayasi), add a sharp Jalibert, a pack in tune, the extraordinary back line and European runners-up on song = a BIG European match. UBB dominated by a distance in a rerun of last year’s European final.

This is only the second time Northampton have conceded 50 points in a European match
