Bayonne are continuing to build their squad for next season. The Basque club have already secured the arrivals of Ignacio Calles (29), Ewan Johnson (26), Alexandre Fischer (27) and South African scrum-half Herschel Jantjies (29). Despite Fischer’s signing, the Bayonne management still want to strengthen at number 8.

According to our information, Aviron are in advanced talks with Rob Leota. The 27-year-old Australian back-rower, currently with the Waratahs, is out of contract. His profile appeals to Bayonne, who have explored other options without success in recent weeks. Racing 92 had also shown interest at one point, but did not take negotiations any further.

The deal nonetheless hinges on a decision from the Australian federation and on the choice of the next Wallabies head coach. If the latter wants to keep Leota within the national set-up, his move to the Top 14 could be compromised.
