Montpellier full-back Stuart Hogg was arrested again by British police in February in a case of harassment targeting his ex-wife, according to reports in the Scottish press.

The 33-year-old, a former Scotland captain, is said to have been detained on 12 February at Manchester airport before being questioned in his home town of Hawick. The evidence gathered was not, however, deemed sufficient to bring charges at this stage.

The arrest comes against an already heavy legal backdrop. Hogg admitted harassing his former partner in 2024, which earned him a community service sentence in January 2025 as well as a non-harassment order lasting several years.

It is precisely the alleged breach of that order, which strictly limits contact to exchanges relating to their children, that is said to have prompted this fresh intervention by the authorities.

In a statement published on his social media, the Scotland international insists that “no criminal charges” have been brought against him and denounces “false and defamatory allegations“, while stating that he cooperated fully with the police.

Having arrived at Montpellier in 2024 after coming out of retirement, Hogg sees his image tarnished once more by these off-field matters, which could weigh on the rest of his career.
