FC Grenoble Rugby reacted straight after Pierre Caillet’s conviction. In a statement published on Monday 31 March, the Isère club confirm that the coach will not take up his post next season.
The club apply the clause announced by Patrick Goffi
The decision comes as no surprise. Several weeks ago, Patrick Goffi, chairman of the Grenoble board, had given warning: in the event of a conviction, Pierre Caillet would not be appointed FCG coach. With the criminal court in Béziers delivering its verdict on Monday, the club applied that clause without delay.
In its statement, Grenoble stress one point: “The acts of which Mr Pierre Caillet is accused cannot be consistent with the values upheld by our club.” FCG make clear that they “in no way judge or comment on the conviction”, but place their values “above any sporting decision”.
A staff to rebuild
The club announce that they will say more shortly on the make-up of their staff for the 2025-2026 season. Grenoble, currently in Pro D2, must find a new coach.
