It is good news in the middle of a difficult spell. According to information from L’Équipe, Gabin Villière is set to extend his contract with RC Toulon until June 2028. The 30-year-old wing, seriously injured in the knee, had until now been tied to the club until 2027.

An extra season signed during rehab

With his contract due to run out in June 2027, Villière has seen the Var club add a year to his deal. An extension agreed even as the France international recovers from a rupture of the cruciate ligaments in his right knee, sustained in the spring. He is not expected to play again before the autumn, at best.

A career interrupted by injuries

Since arriving on the Rade in 2019, the Vire native, developed at Rouen, has worn the Toulon jersey only 87 times in seven seasons, barely more than twelve matches a campaign. The right knee that gave way in April, in only his sixth match of the 2025-26 season against Montauban, was added to a long list: adductors, ribs, hand, fibula, ankle.

As a direct consequence, the wing with 20 caps (9 tries) will not feature in Fabien Galthié’s squad for the southern hemisphere tour, having played two matches in New Zealand last summer. In an interview with L’Équipe in January, he admitted he had come close to giving up: “Is it worth carrying on?” Toulon have made their call: yes.
