La Rochelle were being described as an increasingly ageing side, with minimal recruitment (Douglas two years ago, then Le Garrec, Niniashvili, Lagivala and Pacome, four backs, this season).

But on Friday, Stade Rochelais hit back hard by announcing extensions for three of their talents: fly-half Diego Jurd, lock Charles Kante-Samba and centre Simeli Daunivucu. The first and third named have extended until 2029, the second until 2029.

“I am very happy and very proud to be defending the colours of Stade Rochelais for the next two seasons“, said Daunivucu. “It is the chance to keep growing at the club that has always been mine“, savoured Jurd, who was outstanding in La Rochelle’s last match against Bayonne.

Just as they handed the captaincy to Lucas Andjisseramatchi against the Stormers in the Champions Cup, La Rochelle want to build around their young players.
