France international scrum-half Sébastien Bézy will join Montpellier Hérault Rugby (MHR) from next season. The 33-year-old, whose contract with ASM Clermont Auvergne expires next June, has signed for two seasons with the Hérault club, confirming a departure from the Auvergne that had been widely expected.

The rumour had been going round for a few weeks already… Developed at Stade Toulousain and with ASM Clermont Auvergne since 2020, Sébastien Bézy will discover a third major professional club in Top 14 by signing with Montpellier until June 2028.

The strategic signing answers MHR’s wish to bring in an experienced player (8 France caps) to settle and lead their half-back partnership. The player, who among other things took on the captaincy at Clermont, will bring valuable leadership to a squad in rebuilding mode. The former Toulouse man, who will be almost 34 when he arrives in the Hérault, is approaching this new challenge as one of the last stages before the end of his career.

At Montpellier, where the club had initially shown interest in Baptiste Serin (RCT), Sébastien Bézy will compete for the number 9 shirt with Scotland international Ali Price and the young Alexis Bernardet.
