Rassie Erasmus will remain Springboks head coach until 2031. The man who led South Africa to two World Cup titles (2019, 2023) was handed an extension by his federation on Friday. In 2018, he was promoted to head coach before handing the job to his assistant Jacques Nienaber and then returning to it later on.

“Rassie has perfected a style of play that fits our strengths perfectly, a style combining physical power, tactical intelligence and resilience. (…) His ability to adapt, innovate and inspire has made South Africa a benchmark for others“, said a delighted Mark Alexander, president of the South African federation.

The Springboks are sending a strong signal to the rugby world ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Rassie Erasmus will therefore still be in charge of the current best nation in the world at the 2031 World Cup in the United States.
