Something unusual in the ballot boxes. France full-back Thomas Ramos, hero of France’s Six Nations triumph, picked up… one vote on Sunday in the first round of the local elections, without of course being a candidate.

In Roubaix (Nord), a voter slipped a photo of the Stade Toulousain player into their envelope, as emerged during the count, according to a journalist present at the scene. The ballot was naturally deemed spoiled, since Ramos does not appear on any list submitted in the town.

The gesture looks like a nod from a supporter still marked by the French kicker’s performance. The day before, at the Stade de France, Ramos had handed France victory over England thanks to a penalty landed after the hooter, sealing the French success in the Six Nations.

Top points scorer in the competition for the fourth year running, the France full-back has once again amazed every observer. His popularity now seems to stretch beyond the pitch, to the point of finding its way into a polling envelope.

While that symbolic vote will obviously not open the doors of a town hall to him, it illustrates the enthusiasm generated by the current France generation, of which Ramos is one of the most reliable gunners in front of the posts.
