« Today my knee is not keeping up and I am forced to stop playing rugby. » It was with this sober, straight-to-the-point message that Valentin Saurs made his withdrawal from the game official. Contracted to la Colombe until the end of the 2025/2026 season, the wing has to resign himself to calling it a day, beaten by injury.

A key man stopped in his tracks

Signed in 2021 from Agen as a medical joker, Valentin Saurs had become far more than a stopgap solution. At 1.81m and 80 kg, the classy finisher had established himself as an indispensable figure in the Colomiers attack, finishing as the club’s leading try scorer with 12 touchdowns in 34 matches. His contract extension until 2026 was a sign of the mutual trust between the player and la Colombe’s staff.

“The constant fight to come back”

Unfortunately, the pitch gave way to the treatment room. Describing the last two years as an « emotional rollercoaster », the former U20 international admits he can no longer wage that « constant fight » to get back to his level. While he regrets not having been able to contribute more to the team’s recent results, he leaves the professional game satisfied with the road travelled over more than ten years. A chapter closes prematurely for one of the most popular players at Bendichou.
