At the heart of the set-up, the Olympic stadium in Sydney, with a capacity of around 82,000 spectators, will take centre stage by hosting the final on 13 November, as well as the semi-finals, two quarter-finals and pool matches.

The city of Sydney has also selected the Sydney Football Stadium, redeveloped and more intimate (42,500 seats), for no fewer than six pool matches and two round-of-16 ties.

The competition will open more than 30,000 km to the west, at Perth Stadium (60,000 seats), which will host the opening match on 1 October as well as 6 pool matches. In the south, the Adelaide Oval (53,000) and, in Queensland, Brisbane Stadium (52,500), both already used at the 2003 World Cup, have also been selected.

Melbourne will be represented by Docklands Stadium, the only fully covered venue at the tournament, where every match will be played with the roof closed. Two venues, meanwhile, will make their first appearance at a World Cup: Newcastle Stadium (30,000 seats) north of Sydney, and North Queensland Stadium in Townsville (25,000), both selected for pool matches only.
