Oscar Jegou knows where he stands. The France back-rower appeared on Wednesday before an independent disciplinary panel following his foul act on Scotland hooker Ewan Ashman during France’s defeat in Scotland (50-40). The La Rochelle man has been suspended for four weeks.

In a maul, one of Oscar Jegou’s hands made contact with Ashman’s face. No red card was issued but video of the incident circulated widely on social media.

La Rochelle penalised

The disciplinary panel found there had been “reckless contact with the eye area” and not “intentional contact“. Jegou’s clean record and the fact that the hooker was not injured worked in the La Rochelle man’s favour.

He will logically miss the match against England as well as three matches with his club (against Pau, Bayonne and Newcastle).
