Four of Glasgow’s five tries came from the maul.
Connacht opened the scoring through number eight Sean Jansen. Glasgow replied with three tries before the break, two from Gregor Hiddleston and one from flanker Rory Darge, to lead 19-7. Josh McKay secured the bonus point straight after the restart (26-7).
Connacht got back within seven through two tries from full-back Josh Ioane, called up by Samoa last week for November. But Josh Murphy’s yellow card gave the Warriors fresh impetus, and replacement hooker Seb Stephen finished another maul (33-19). Despite Scott Cummings’ late yellow card, Dan Lancaster closed the scoring with a penalty. George Horne, promoted to start at scrum-half after Kyle Rowe’s withdrawal, kicked four conversions.
Connacht have not won in Glasgow since September 2010. The sides met in the quarter-finals in May, with the same winner (33-21).
Ospreys grab first win
In Friday’s other game, Ospreys won 38-31 at Dragons thanks to two tries from number eight Morgan Morris in the last nine minutes. Dragons, second before kick-off, took a losing bonus point with a last-gasp Angus O’Brien penalty.
