Newcastle will have to wait more than an extra year before seeing their New Zealand signing in action.

When he committed to Newcastle, Fehi Fineanganofo had yet to play for the All Blacks. Since then, the 24-year-old wing has played three Tests for New Zealand in 2026, scoring two tries, after a Super Rugby season with 17 tries in 14 games for the Hurricanes, champions this year.

To stay eligible, he needed to keep playing in New Zealand. After several months of talks, the Red Bulls agreed to push back his arrival to the end of 2027. He will therefore play next season’s Super Rugby with the Hurricanes. “The opportunity to stay in New Zealand and try to make the World Cup was extremely important to me,” the player said, as quoted by Rugbyrama.
