Stade Français have won the final sprint. After a fierce tussle involving several clubs, Le Figaro reported on Monday that Fijian wing Peniasi Dakuwaqa has extended his stay in the capital. Excellent news for the Paris club, who took a genuine gamble back in 2022.
Now 28, the player had arrived from the Cook Islands, where he was spotted through videos and on the recommendation of Sireli Bobo, a former international who played for several French clubs (Biarritz, Racing 92, La Rochelle, Toulon, Pau).
Dakuwaqa will stay for a further two seasons, until 2028. L’Equipe report that he was being watched by Castres, Montpellier and Bayonne in particular. The Basque club came close to winning the day. Fielded 48 times since his arrival (as things stand this season), the lightning-quick wing has scored 20 tries.
