Bayonne: Rob Leota leaves with immediate effect

He has not played a single minute this season.

The club’s brief statement says Leota leaves the professional squad from 13 October, in agreement with Bayonne, without giving reasons. He had the rest of the season left on his two-year contract.

Eleven Top 14 games in one season

Leota played 11 Top 14 games for Bayonne in 2025-26, scoring one try, plus one Champions Cup game. Injured in the knee in the spring, he had only just returned to full training. Before moving to the Basque Country, he played 11 Super Rugby games for the Waratahs in 2025 (3 tries).

Now free to join another club, the former Wallaby could aim for the 2027 World Cup on home soil with a return to Australia.
