Aged 28 and a Pumas international (more than 20 caps), Albornoz leaves Italy, where he had been playing since 2021 with Benetton Rugby in Treviso (United Rugby Championship).

Developed in Argentina and a former Jaguares and Tucumán Rugby player before his European move, the fly-half is renowned for his consistency, his ability to organise the game and his attacking influence.

His arrival is intended to bring experience to a position already well stocked with young Matéo Garcia and Italy international Paolo Garbisi, whose future at the club is being debated in the Italian press.

The signing comes as Toulon deal with the absence of French full-back Melvyn Jaminet, who had surgery this week and will be off the pitch for some time. Albornoz, who started during the Pumas’ recent autumn tour, notably against England, expressed his “great pride” at joining a historic institution of French rugby.
