Serge Blanco, the emblematic former France full-back, is reportedly considering standing for mayor of Biarritz at the municipal elections of March 2026, according to several local sources. He is expected to announce his official decision in early November.
A major sporting figure in the Basque town, Blanco, 67, has reportedly been mulling over this new challenge for several months, according to La Tribune Dimanche. Discussions are said to be ongoing and those close to him talk of a break-with-the-past candidacy, independent of the major parties.

For now, no formal confirmation has been given, and Blanco himself has not spoken publicly about launching a campaign.
If his candidacy materialises, it could reshuffle the local political deck, given his popularity and his deep roots in Biarritz. The issues at stake would include the running of the town hall, local development and Basque culture, as well as relations – obviously – with Biarritz Olympique, the club of which Blanco is a legend.
