Just a few hours after the meeting between France and Fiji in Bordeaux, a young player registered with US Montauban was taken into police custody. According to the newspaper La Dépêche, a woman filed a complaint, saying she had been assaulted in a Gironde nightclub by a man who was “visibly very drunk” and who is alleged to have put a hand on her backside.

The player, who is of Fijian origin, is being questioned by police as part of an investigation into sexual assault. His custody has been extended because of his state of intoxication at the time of his arrest. US Montauban have already been alerted: the club is due to meet the player this week to take stock of the possible consequences, both judicial and disciplinary.
